Front Desk staff are terrible and do not help!

We are staying at the Allegro Playacar now! Unfortunately the problems that other reviewers experienced concerning rooms have not been dealt with at all. We are a family of 11 staying in four rooms at the hotel for a celebration holiday. When we arrived on Saturday after travelling for 18 hours we could not get four rooms in one building although this was requested by email directly with the hotel at the beginning of the year! We were at that time more than happy to pay for an upgrade to 4 rooms in the sea view blocks. So this is the story so far: On arrival 2 of the rooms allocated had only one kingsize bed for the families with children. They were allocated new rooms and we were now even further apart than before The front desk staff said to come back in the morning and we could get 4 rooms together as many guests were checking out. As we were tired from travelling we agreed. The next morning at 10 we went to the desk as advised. After a very long discussion with the front desk staff we were allocated 2 new rooms near the other 2 rooms which we already have. We packed the suitcases ready for the move. Back to the front desk in the afternoon to collect the keys only to be told that the rooms promised were no longer available! A guest had requested to extend their stay and the airco was out of service in the other room. We spoke to a front desk manager and her manager, their names will follow, for over an hour. We asked to speak to the hotel manager about the problems and were told that there is a management meeting every Monday morning but if we got to the desk at 8.30 am we could speak to the manager before the meeting. At 8.30 the following morning the manager was not available to speak to us, come back in an hour the guy on the desk said. The front desk staff have no idea of what they are doing. They have no intention to help guests They cover up for each other If you are planning a family or group holiday and would like to have rooms close to each other DO NOT come to this hotel. The desk staff are not there for customer satisfaction. It is such a shame that they let the side down as the rooms, food and facilities are good. Communication is on the whole lacking, there is no notice board to inform you of activities planned. To add insult to injury the two rooms next to us are empty !! which is totally infuriating We have spent six hours of our holiday trying to rectify this situation so far. We expect the hotel management to now reach out to us as we are still at the hotel. The names of staff not helping are: Enrique Loria Artonira Mann Felipe Cruz We understand the manager is Francisco Canejo and we look forward to speaking with him.

    Great Group Trip!

We loved the hotel, we stayed last week as a young under 30 group of 6, 3 couples across 3 rooms and had an overall great stay. The bad reviews prior did worry me as we had booked this as a BA package holiday. But we had no issues with AC in all 3 rooms thankfully. But any problems or questions if any were sorted quickly and the staff were very friendly. The entertainment staff were also fun and kept everyone entertained at the pool and in the evening times, especially Edgar who was a laugh. We enjoyed the magic show and circus and it was nice to see effort put into the evening entrainment, shame it was just an hour as it was great. The grounds were beautiful and the cleaners did a great job keeping the rooms tidy each day. I would say the rooms are more 3-3.5* along with the food. Lunch by the pool was our fave as the food selection was nice, burgers 10/10 and the pizza bar self serve was super convenient. I say the rooms are lovely but the bathroom was a bit outdate. The grounds / facilities etc I'd say were a solid 4*, well kept and always clean. I also loved the animals were free roaming around. In regards to food. We tried the Mexican and Italian as well as the buffet during the stay. The Mexican was nice, Italian the portion sizes were kids sizes. The food overall was good, there was always something to eat each night but it did feel repetitive and was a little hard to put a meal together some nights. We didn't get to try the Thai because there was no availability left after spending an hour each day after breakfast in a queue. It would be much easier to get with the times and not make people pointlessly wait by implementing some online booking system, which I have used in other hotels on stays before. This would have given us an hour extra around the pool, rather than queuing each morning. The mask situation was also odd, you wasn't made to wear them in reception but to go into the food area which was outside with open air you had to. I understand mask by food, but to just order a drink at the bar by the pool you had to wear one, but if you stood around the corner of the bar not under the shelter you didn't have to wear one. On our last day we paid to extend the room and bands for 4 hours I think it cost 4 of us around $80 ish. This hotel is in a safe gated community with great shopping mall opposite with a lovely bakery in. Which was nice to visit for a change to the buffet. There was also some bars and small market stalls. This hotel is around a 30 min walk into Playa del Carmen town, which is a nice stroll in the evenings on one straight road. We had some great times out in the town a few of the evenings. This hotel I would come back to again for sure! I was sad to leave. We had a really fun trip and loved every minute! Hope to be back next year.

    Does anyone even work here.

I deleted my review from April 6 and am redoing it. A manager reached out to the last one and this is my only way to respond to their reply. Day 1 -I’ve been calling the reception for over an hour to fix our door between connecting rooms, completely ignored. I called for 3 days before someone showed up. But it all started at check-in. I booked "The Family Garden Room, which looks out onto a 48-m² garden, is ideal for families and friends, and is made up of 2 rooms". However, they were in two different buildings very far from each other. I am not putting a 13 and a 17-year-old into a room far away that connects to strangers( I think all rooms connect) We negotiated this to a "Family Ocean View" that would connect but there would be an additional fee. Additional $100 per night, I'm not kidding. Eventually, they honored the price and put us in the upgraded ocean view room***See photo of the ocean "view" view.... One side of this suite was decent, the other seems to be a living room where they pushed all of the furniture to the side, to make room for a bed. Very dark and only one source of light, with other lightbulb being broken for 5 days. I traveled with my brother's family and they too had the family rooms booked, best they got was the same building on different floors, but they brought grandma with them, so they were not in such a bad spot. Food and drinks, average at best. The mojito is made with a gross liquid sweetener, and I was really looking forward to the mojitos :(. One restaurant for buffet lunch and then dinner. Very small area for food, and hot inside. The lunch restaurant was by the pool/beach. I actually tried the lunch once, a burger which was very good. During lunch, there was also a pizza bar and a soft-serve ice cream machine. The specialty restaurants were a joke, people did line up at 9, for the desk to open at 10. The specialty meals were then served at the same location as the lunch. Nobody answers the phones, if you need anything you need to be at the front desk and actually supervise your request. We had a situation where we needed a doctor and he came out pretty fast, but again had to go ask in person. We asked for a car rental for 4 days straight before we just went over to Hertz outside the gates. This place got very busy for the weekend, with local weekenders and bachelor/bachelorette parties. The daily pool entertainment was exactly the same every single day. We only saw a bit of the circus show, which was a standard acrobatic show. Decent grounds, the beach had a ton of seaweed that got cleaned up once. Very wavy and windy in the beginning of April. Overall, we tried to stay out of the resort as much as possible and took daily trips on our own. The only attention we got was from the timeshare people offering us cenote tickets ot xel-ha etc, I told them I'll give you the $50 to stop you from asking us again. It just rang very "poor".

    Love the lodging but.......

We have been going to this resort for 15 plus years. We love the type of lodging here. Small individual buildings give a unique experience unlike most hotels. The staff were great and the grounds are very nice with lots of wildlife running around the resort. I see others mention problems with their rooms but we have not had any bad experiences. Yes they could use some updates but the uniqueness of the lodging and great location of the resort are the main reasons we keep going back. Now for the down sides of most recent trip. We booked two rooms for two couples 6 months out and upon arrival we did not and could not get rooms in same building. The front desk staff had no interest in getting us rooms in same building, very disappointing. The food, well not much good to say about it. Since covid the quality and selections have suffered and still have not recovered. We know this us not a five star resort but they really need to improve the food.
