Good and Bad
First the upside.....the beach is beautiful and the staff were great. Big shout out to the housekeeping employees - they were more than helpful and our room was cleaned and we had fresh towels daily. The grounds outside the lobby towards the bar and beach were nicely maintained. The saltwater pool was amazing with comfy loungers and umbrellas. Walking distance to some decent restaurants. The downside....rooms are badly in need of upgrades. The outdoor staircases are crumbling and dirty. Our room overlooked a parking lot - we could live with that. However there are no chairs to sit outside your room at night. If you want to be outside you have to go downstairs to the grounds. No coffee makers in the room - coffee is available in the lobby at the ridiculous price of almost 5.00 per cup. I walked across the street to Dunk'n Donuts after day 1. Drinks in the bar are outrageously overpriced -almost 15.00 US dollars for a Bloody Mary. $10.00 for a can of hard iced tea. You are better off going to the beautiful patio next door where there is live music and drinks are less expensive. This hotel is badly in need of some TLC and prices for food and beverages need to be more reasonable. We will probably shop around for a different hotel next time we are in the area.
Carlton was one of the nicest people and helped us so much. We really appreciate his service and his diligence. He was also very funny. Such a wonderful person and a great worker. We are thankful for him
Not an experience I wish to repeat...
To preface these comments, the hotel was sold in early 2022 and maintenance to the existing facility appears to be at the absolute minimum until the new owners launch a renovation plan. So don’t expect any improvements until that’s occurred. I was in three rooms, not by choice. The first faced the parking lot and the table lamp didn’t have a light bulb in it and the two lights between the beds weren’t plugged in. The chair was simply a cold aluminum one. And the bathroom was extremely small. The sofa had spots and some tears in the padding. The front desk offered to move me, but at an upgraded cost for a courtyard room which I did. In the second room, it was weird that the TV didn’t carry any of the cable channels like the first room, and the picture was very poor. Back at the front desk I was moved to a third room that did have good TV. In that one, the lights didn’t work and new ones had to be brought in. Be aware all rooms have only tile, no carpeting, which is sub-standard for a hotel of this cost, and lacking in comfort. If you’re in the courtyard near the pool like me in this third room, be prepared for blasting music from about 9:00 AM to 1:00 AM. And this is in addition to a DJ that plays even louder music until about 2:00 AM by the beach bar. The Front Desk did advise of it but it seemed to be louder and later than expected. In the general area of the hotel there’s a pool table, but only one of the two cue sticks had a tip on it and no chalk was available. Another sign of poor maintenance. Outside when parking your car, there’s a gate that can only be opened by scanning the hotel key in front of a silver box with a slit in it. However, both myself and many people I observed couldn’t figure out where to hold the key because we were given no instructions. And it would have been really simply for them to mark with a bit a paint where to hold the key. Just by luck I figured it out. Finally, when first checking in they didn’t share the Wi-Fi password with me – something that is normally done in all hotels - until I returned to the front desk and asked for it. I will give credit to the Front Desk personnel that they can’t be faulted for any of the experiences I had (except the WI-Fi password) and were otherwise helpful. I blame the new management company. I'll just stay somewhere else in the future.
If you are looking for a quiet escape, this is not the place. We recently stayed in a Bungalow room and the place became a spring break party on the weekend with a DJ blasting even though the party had moved on and he was competing with a wedding DJ in the same area. This property could be a beautiful setting with updates, attention to detail and care. The lobby staff were friendly and helpful and Ed Sheets listened to our concerns and was very professional and empathetic. There is hope that with him leading the team, they will be able to turn this place around.
Free rum tasting as soon as we checked in! I’ll be back! Friendly staff all around. Very upbeat and fun music playing all the time- it’s a vibe. Music does go off for quiet hours. Thanks David and Steven for making my Aunts birthday so special!
